If you want to learn something teach it. When second wife fired her niece’s boyfriend I had to make the Feta and Chevre, which meant I also had to teach Cheese-Making 101 at Leisure Learning Unlimited in Houston. At LLU on alternate months i taught Goat Farming 101, Meta-Fiscal Independence, What Color Are your Beliefs and my favorite, Finding Your Dharma.
Dharma is your purpose in life, the genius in you that enables you to do something for humanity that only you out of eight billion people on the planet can do. At lunch today June 5th we were discussing philanthropy because today is a QUEEN of Diamonds day, the Philanthropist Card. Adam Smith, the father of modern economics, and John Maynard Keynes, the son of modern economics, have a June 5th birthdays. Seems to me they both were on their respective dharma paths with philanthropic contributions to humanity via economic theory. Kinda-like Einstein, a no contest dharma personality, and his E=MC2 stuff.
Your dharma is in your DNA, in the four elements of atomic structure, HNOC: Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen and Carbon, in your brain chemistry Dopamine, Testosterone, Serotonin, Oxytocin and in your birthday. When we start out all we and our parents know is our birthday, over time we find subjects in school that we like better than others, we go to college stick with a major or unstick with a major, we go to work and discover what we can do best on the job. Then somewhere between 45 and 55 the shit hits the fan and we are forced to revisit our childhood wound, to Find the Fear You Feel.
My Finding Your Dharma algorithm goes something like this: Birth Card + Ego card +karma cards + moniker + 1 of 53 karmic paths + 1 of 6 stages of childhood wounding.
Let’s take Honest Abe as an example nearly every analysis of our 44 US presidents puts Abe in the top three and more often than not, number one. Lincoln is my consensus candidate for Dharma Man. What can we find applying my dharma ‘algo’ to the biographical history of Abraham Lincoln’s psyche? Fortunately for Abe and the Union the country lawyer ‘rail splitter’ has a great Birth Card, the KING of Diamonds.
KING of Diamonds -The BUSINESS OWNER: The King of Diamonds is the master of values. In this regard he or she can do very well in any business pursuit, applying the inherited knowledge to their business with much success. These people always do better as heads of their own business. They can be very mercenary when it comes to money and business, but they don’t have to be. This is the only “one-eyed” King in the deck which means that they tend to see everything from their own point of view exclusive of others. This can make them very stubborn and one-sided in their view points. However, all of them know what is of real value and if they follow their knowing instead of their fears, they can be the most respectable people in the business world. They must always guard against using their power to get things to go their way. The King of Diamonds are powerful people who can do much good in the world and can be examples of those who are “in the world but not of it”.
Abe’s “one-eyed” approach kept him focused on the prize and achieve success from the dharma state of appearing “in the world but not of it”.
SIX of Diamonds: The Card of FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Lincoln’s second card, his Ego card, his ‘Who He Thinks He Is Card’ is the SIX of Diamonds. Six implies responsibility and diamonds relates to finances. Six of Diamonds people are keenly aware of debts and their repayment.
Now you know why they called him ‘Honest Abe.’
Like all sixes they receive exactly what they put out. They may fall into slumps as a result of their inertia so they need to remember to prod themselves into action.
As a youth, Lincoln disliked the hard labor associated with frontier life. Some of his neighbors and family members thought for a time that he was lazy for all his “reading, scribbling, writing, ciphering, writing Poetry, etc.”, and must have done it to avoid manual labor.
Once they get going, they can attain most anything they desire. There is protection for them in work and action, not in waiting for the lottery.
Relationships: Underneath the tough exterior of the (6d) lies a person who is having a difficult time meeting their needs for affection. There are often deep fears of abandonment that underlie much of what they do in their personal relationships.
Lincoln’s first romantic interest Ann Rutledge who died at age 22, his mother Nancy Lincoln died when Abe was nine.
Until those fears are dealt with directly, they can have a hard time understanding the repeated failures that make up their love life. On a deeper level, the Six of Diamonds is here to settle karmic debts from past lives. Finances can go from one extreme to the other in this process. If they accept what they inwardly know, they will always be happy whatever the circumstances in their life. If they have discovered their special mission in life, they will not worry about how much money they have. These people make great teachers. They are givers and can be entrusted with great responsibility. What they have to give is a clear knowledge of values and discrimination.
The THREE of Clubs the ‘WRITER’S Card’: The creativity in this card can manifest in many ways. On the high side, these people can be highly successful writers, teachers or performers. On the low side, they can worry, become indecisive and spend their time on frivolous activities. Even among the most successful (3c) we find worry and indecision as more-or-less constant themes in their life.
Success in life always depends upon the individual and how they use their God given gifts and abilities. (3c) are gifted but their fear of poverty may entice them into using their creativity in questionable ways. If this happens, they seldom get away with it. They make great salespeople and propagandists, but they are ineffective until they decide upon one philosophy and stand behind it. This is one of the strongest business cards. Their natural gifts are creative and many become prominent authors, speakers or producers in the entertainment industry. Their love has the potential to be realized on a more universal level. If they utilize their inheritance of spiritual knowledge, much success can be realized. They are here to be transformers of energy – worry into creativity and fear into faith. In this manner they serve as powerful examples for us all.
As a young man, Lincoln was a religious skeptic, or, in the words of a biographer, an iconoclast. Later in life, Lincoln’s frequent use of religious imagery and language might have reflected his own personal beliefs or might have been a device to appeal to his audiences, who were mostly evangelical Protestants. He never joined a church, although he frequently attended with his wife. However, he was deeply familiar with the Bible, and he both quoted and praised it. He was private about his beliefs and respected the beliefs of others. Lincoln never made a clear profession of Christian beliefs. However, he did believe in an all-powerful God that shaped events and, by 1865, was expressing those beliefs in major speeches.
SEVEN of Spades: The Card of FAITH: This card is regarded as one of the most spiritual in the deck and these people can have great success in their life as long as they do not disregard the wisdom that is intended to guide them through life. These people are here to learn to TRUST and keep going in spite of circumstances. Their main challenges will come in the areas of work and health. The underlying King of Diamonds mandates that they must live the higher values they know if they are to have the blessings and power that is inherently available to them. Being the Seven of Spades puts them on the line. They must think, speak and act from a higher perspective or suffer innumerable ills. They are protected by a high, spiritual force but even this is not as powerful as their own actions and attitudes. They must live what they know and follow their intuitive guidance. They can always do well if they work hard and maintain honesty. Nothing can stop them but themselves.
Putting Lincoln’s cards on the table, the four quadrants of the brain, gives a clearer picture of his behavior and reasoning process. No Heart cards allowed him to make his decisions regarding the conduct of the Civil War based on the facts, not emotions.
Enough with the cards let’s check out the February 12th Moniker. Think of it as a Who You Are marketing tagline.
Birth Card + Ego card + karma cards + moniker + 1 of 53 karmic paths + 1 of 6 stages of childhood wounding.
February TWELFTH the Day of the UNIFIER: February 12 people display a marked ability to unify disparate elements in their environment. Whether bringing together a troubled family, healing a rift between friends or demonstrating leadership to resolve disputes in organizations, they can often be found bridging the gaps between people. Does this make them team players? Not exactly. Those born on this day usually assess a given situation from their own standpoint and if they have the authority to do so chart the course for the group. It is less in their nature to build consensus. However, this is not to imply that they ignore or undervalue what others think. It is just that they often feel that they have already assimilated most points of view and come to a conclusion as to the best course of action. Having reached such a determination, they are then highly influential in persuading others to follow their lead.
If we wrote a CV/Resume for an Abe Lincoln job search or for that matter anyone born on February 12th, the Day of the UNIFIER script leaves nothing for embellishment.
When I started reading these birthday monikers and their descriptions in Gary Goldschneider’s, The Secret Language of BIRTHDAYS, I accused him of tailoring them to one famous person e.g. Lincoln. However, other leaders born on February 12th like Bill Russell, Cotton Mather and Charles Darwin fit the UNIFIER designation.
Consider Omar Nelson Bradley (February 12, 1893), nicknamed Brad, was a highly distinguished senior officer of the United States Army who saw distinguished service in North Africa and Western Europe during World War II, and later became General of the Army. From the Normandy landings of June 6, 1944 through to the end of the war in Europe, Bradley had command of all U.S. ground forces invading Germany from the west; he ultimately commanded forty-three divisions and 1.3 million men, the largest body of American soldiers ever to serve under a single U.S. field commander.
Let’s move on to the biggest single factor in FINDING YOUR DHARMA, the 53 karmic paths.
Birth Card + Ego card +karma cards + moniker + 1 of 53 karmic paths + 1 of 6 stages of childhood wounding.
While Abe was still in the non-physical universe he or the cosmic Illuminati chose INTENTION as his path to dharma. Those born on the #7 Way of INTENTION are here to learn how to concentrate fully on any matter at hand, to eliminate the superfluous from their life and work, and to acquire greater mastery. While these thoroughly practical men and women have an innate ability to focus, too often this ability is more sporadic than consistent in nature. While they are already able to concentrate in short, intense spurts, these individuals are here to learn how to focus over the long haul. For this to occur, those on this karmic path must learn to set an intention and hold it. The development of such a capacity for intention is, in essence, about harnessing one’s own mind for a specific purpose. For the individuals on this path, who are easily knocked off balance and blown off course, this is far more difficult than it may seem.
CORE LESSON: Developing the self-mastery not to permit distraction at any cost;
GOAL: To remain focused over the long term;
Omar Bradley, although possessing the same cards as Lincoln was born in 1893, three generations after Lincoln, and ended up with #29 The Way of EMPOWERMENT “Drama and Criticism to Power,“ those on this karmic path are here to learn how to unlock the sources of power within them. Blessed with charm, insight, and consciousness, those on the Way of Empowerment must learn to utilize their inner resources and believe in their own personal power.
Core Lesson: Embracing themselves with self-love and self-respect;
Goal: To come to believe in their own strength and personal power.
That’s how it goes, timing is everything did the unborn Lincoln see that the Union, in order to remain a Union, needed his help? Did destiny find the man or woman (Lincoln credited Harriett Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin for starting the war) or did Lincoln go looking for his destiny? The Indians, the folks that wrote the book on this karma and dharma stuff, have a saying, “Do your karma and dharma will take care of itself.”
Honest Abe once took 6 1/4 cents too much from a customer. That night when the store closed, he walked three miles to return the woman’s money.
Was he lazy for all his “reading, scribbling, writing, ciphering, writing Poetry, etc.” or just doing his karma?
Different dharma’s and different karmic paths for each of the 366 birthdays in the year. Abe and Omar are two personalities who exercised their individual genius – played the cards they were dealt – to benefit humanity.
The last leg in my dharma algorithm is our Childhood Wound.
Birth Card + Ego card +karma cards + moniker + 1 of 53 karmic paths + 1 of 6 stages of childhood wounding.
Abraham Lincoln was the second of three children born to Nancy and Thomas Lincoln. Birth order lingo says the second child mirrors the mother and in Abe’s case Nancy died when Abraham was nine. Between the ages of six to thirteen the child is learning how to get along with others. This stage of childhood development is titled CONCERN for OTHERS with two types of personalities, the LONER or the CARETAKER. The full characteristics of each stage is found in Harville Hendrix book, Keeping the Love You Find.
CONCERN for OTHERS STAGE (6-13)
The Loner: Minimizer, Rigid Boundaries
Basic Fear (Wound): Ostracism by peers; parental (partner) rejection
Internal Message Don’t be close
Core Belief: I am not lovable
Relationship Belief: I’ll be hurt if I try to be close
Image of Partner: Gregarious and intrusive
Relationship to Partner: Exclude partner from inner world; make unilateral plans; counter-dependent
Core Issue: Partner intrusiveness
Typical Frustration: You don’t like me; you won’t leave me alone
Recurrent Feeling: Resentment and depression
Conflict Management: Avoids conflict; sulks
Growth Challenge: Develop same-sex friends; join partner in socializing; share feelings and thoughts with partner; become inclusive
The Caretaker: Maximizer, Diffuse Boundaries
Basic Fear (Wound): Having or expressing needs; being excluded; parental (partner) rejection
Internal Message Don’t have any needs of your own
Core Belief: Others need me
Relationship Belief: I’ll be loved if I meet your needs
Image of Partner: Unappreciative
Relationship to Partner: Self-sacrificing; intrusive
Core Issue: Partner’s exclusion
Typical Frustration: You don’t appreciate me or my efforts
Recurrent Feeling: Resentment; depression
Conflict Management: Tries to be understanding and nice
Growth Challenge: Express needs to partner and others; self-care; respect partner’s privacy; take time alone
Core Belief: Others need me was Lincoln’s childhood lesson making him a super-duper CARETAKER. As a country lawyer he failed to charge some clients because he knew they were too poor to pay. The theory of the wound states that how yo treat your spouse, your children, your workmates, your boss or the man-in-the-street is determined by the critical lessons you learned at that critical moment in growing-up.
Abraham Lincoln the UNIFIER on the Way of INTENTION who from 1860 to 1865 served as America’s CARETAKER. Abe’s Mid-Life Transition ages 45-55 began on October 16, 1854, in his “Peoria Speech“, at the age of 45 and ended with his assassination at Ford’s Theatre on April 14, 1865 just two months after his 56th birthday.
NATURE in the form of Lincoln’s February 14, 1809 birth date made him a KING of Diamonds –The BUSINESS OWNER + SIX of Diamonds: The Card of FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY + The THREE of Clubs the ‘WRITER’S Card’ + SEVEN of Spades: The Card of FAITH + the UNIFIER moniker + The Way of INTENTION karmic path.
NURTURE in the form of his childhood wound, the relationship with his mother who died when Abe was nine, embedded the CARETAKER role in Lincoln’s moral compass and emotional guidance system.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery today is the present. Before Abe gave his Gettysburg address he had to win the 1860 presidential election. This he did as an unannounced political candidate in his Cooper Union speech. Today’s present June 2016 has a triumvirate of known, unknown personages, Hillary, Trump and Bernie. The future, November 8, 2016 is a mystery a good time to test my dharma algo on the current situation.
